St. Gregory is a faith community with a strong tradition of Gospel-oriented religious education. Our students take an active part in the life of the parish by participating in church liturgies and in community outreach service projects.
As a Catholic school, St. Gregory students are expected to participate fully in the religious education program of the school. Students receive religion instruction on a daily basis, and attend Mass as a school once each week. (Parents/Grandparents, etc., are invited to attend Mass with us each Wednesday at 8:45 a.m.) In addition to our weekly Mass, students in grades 3 through 8 have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the liturgical seasons of Advent and Lent.
As a part of the Religion curriculum, sacramental preparation and reception take place in the following grades:
Reconciliation: Grade 2
First Eucharist: Grade 2
Confirmation: Grade 8
The behavioral expectations of our students and staff reflect the importance we place upon nine relational values which reflect our Catholic Identity: trust, respect, self-control, justice and fairness, equality, fidelity, promise-keeping, and honesty. Dialogue with students when discussing behavioral issues is designed to promote these values, and is therefore an integral part of the school. Central to our over-all philosophy is the concept of caring: caring for ideas, ourselves, others, the natural world and the human world.
In order to reach these lofty goals of producing students who are proficient in their understanding and application of Christian values, St. Gregory School has adopted the PeaceBuilders Program. This is a child-friendly curriculum which helps students to understand and claim responsibility for creating conditions which promote peace in their school and classroom environments. It provides structure, expectations, and a common language utilized by students and staff to create and maintain a school atmosphere of non-violence, justice, peace, and compassion.
I am a PeaceBuilder.I pledge to praise people,To give up put-downs,To seek wise people as advisors and friends,To notice the hurts I have caused and make amends,To right wrongs,To help others.I will build peace at home, at school, and in my community each day.
